INSPIRATIONAL LABS

IMPACT ZONE

Outreach & Impact Inspirational Lab in partnership with ESoDoc

ESoDoc’s lab at WEMW is dedicated to empowering filmmakers to harness the transformative power of storytelling. Hosted by The Good Media Network—the visionary organisation behind Berlin’s brand new and innovative media and nonfiction festival Dokumentale, as well as Germany’s pioneering film and impact initiative, The Good Media Pitch—this lab is a hands-on co-creation space. It invites selected fiction and documentary projects to explore how their stories can ignite meaningful change in society.

Through a dynamic, guided workshop, participants will craft a compelling vision for the societal shifts they hope to inspire. The process includes defining clear, actionable impact goals and outlining strategic steps to unlock their film’s full potential. By diving into the nuances of impact, the lab aims to deepen participants’ understanding of the role stories play in creating change—not just for their productions, but for audiences, collaborators, and the broader community.
Key outcomes of the workshop include the development of a foundational impact strategy tailored to integrate seamlessly into every stage of the filmmaking process, from scriptwriting to distribution. Participants will gain practical tools and personalised guidance to refine their vision and implement effective campaigns.

EXPERT PROFILE

Vivian Schröder is the Impact Director at The Good Media Network. She began her career in the film industry by producing commercials. In 2012, she began working closely with Boekamp & Kriegsheim – now known as Thursday Company – a production company in Berlin. There she focused on the production of documentary films and series, including Scitech Tv for the Arab market and Because Of Who I Am for arte/rbb. Through their co-production of The Borneo Case, she got to know the principle of impact producing and has been working as Germany’s first independent Impact Producer and Field Builder since 2020, giving inter/national workshops and accompanying the theatrical release of films such as TOTAL TRUST directed by Jialing Zhang. Most recently she developed the strategy and produced the impact campaign of NOT JUST CELSIUS, which core focus is to spread the effective work of visionary youth from around the world taking governments to court for failing to protect our climate. For the first time in history, this fight has reached the world’s highest court in the form of the Advisory Opinion on climate change and human rights. Since 2019, she has been working intensively on setting up a film and impact program in Germany based on the model of DocSociety’s Good Pitch and has coordinated initial formats such as the Climate Story Lab Berlin (2020), The Climate Justice Story Lab in The Hague (2024) and Impact Day 2023. In 2024, she founded The Good Media Network together with Anna Ramskogler-Witt.
