WEMW goes greener! Our new tailored approach to build a more sustainable market
Over the past years WEMW has increasingly prioritized a more eco-conscious approach, aiming to implement more sustainable and inclusive solutions in all aspects of the market’s management.
Starting in 2025, we’re taking a big step forward and launching a full-scale process to certify our market as a sustainable event within the next three years.
ISO 20121, the international standard for sustainable event management
Thanks to the collaboration with Trentino Film Commission, the event management system is aligned with the principles of ISO 20121, fully embracing the values of environmental awareness, economic responsibility and social sustainability.
In 2019, Trentino Film Commission launched Green Film – both a rating system and certification designed for adoption by other institutions such as film funds, film commissions and broadcasters nationwide.
Together with Green Film, WEMW improvement programme is also inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Our actions will not only be aimed at minimizing waste – including limited printing, plastic-free packaging, reusable set-ups, food surplus donation, recycled or ethically made gadgets and a tailored climate strategy – but also at making WEMW truly inclusive, creating a more accessible market for all participants (please find attached here our complete Sustainability Policy).
WEMW first Baby Lounge & diversified local menus
A truly sustainable event includes a series of actions to make our world greener as well as more accessible for anyone, both for the current and future generations of our participants.
Amongst the services implemented for the upcoming edition of WEMW, we are proud to introduce our entirely free Baby Lounge, a new comfortable and safe space for children, designed to promote a healthier work-life balance for our guests. The lounge will provide professional daily childcare for the WEMW youngest visitors aged 1 to 6 allowing our guests to fully engage in market’s activities.
Furthermore, thanks to the long lasting collaboration with the Savoia Excelsior Palace Hotel, our main local partner and historical venue of WEMW, during all networking events we will offer a choice of tailor-made menu with more vegetarian, gluten-free and seasonal ingredients, so as to ensure we meet the diverse needs of our attendees.
Reducing the WEMW carbon footprint with our annual Green Lottery
WEMW 2025 will also revisit one of its trademark appointments: the Green Lottery.
Once again we have partnered with Friland to offer our lucky winners a slow, quiet and eco-friendly getaway in a sustainable accommodation immersed in the natural beauties of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
While encouraging a more eco-conscious approach to traveling, we are also committed to address our own environmental footprint impact; with this in mind, all the proceeds from the 2024 and 2025 editions of the Green Lottery are reinvested in certified initiatives. More specifically, to offset our carbon footprint, we will purchase Gold Standard-certified carbon credits to fund a range of impactful projects to both reduce CO₂ emissions and create sustainable solutions for the communities involved. Our goal is to raise €2.000 to reinvest in projects such as the implementation of a safe water system for rural Uganda, the Nicaforest reforestation programme in Nicaragua and the funding of renewable energy technologies across India, and we are confident that, with the support of our attendees, we can make a real difference.
Over the next three years, we are committed to building a greener and more inclusive market and to translating our vision into concrete actions. By sharing our progress and findings along the way, we hope to also ignite a real change towards a more environmentally responsible film industry.
